Yes, in fact, I am ready for some football. Thanks for asking.
I love fall, it’s my favorite season (even in California we call it a season, because it goes from 78 to 64 and we get rain at least twice – huge difference) and I love everything about it. I love wearing jeans with boots and sweaters, I love making stews and baking pies and I even love the time change. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday – what is better than running a 10K in the morning, which obviously gives me absolute carte blanche to eat anything else I want all day, then cooking, wine and friends? It’s the best. I love making plans to go skiing, but never actually going skiing because god, it’s so much work, let’s just stay here.
But mostly, I love professional football. Tonight is the first game and I couldn’t be happier. I am in a couple of football pools with two different friends and it makes watching even better. The first pool I am in is a suicide pool – meaning, you pick one team to win every week. No points, just win or lose. They win, you are alive, they lose…not so much. The trick is that you can’t ever use the same team twice, so it gets pretty hard. The second pool I’m in is choosing a winner for every game and a points total on Monday night. Love them both.
The funny part is my partners – I am in each with a different guy friend of mine, and they are both superstitious freaks. Darrell has a cautionary tale for every game “Andrea, no way is Green Bay going to outscore the Giants on a Monday night in New York after the 2nd Tuesday in October” um, sure, okay. We make a great team though, because I prepare mathematical equations for my predictions based on odds, standings and injuries, and then he proceeds to tell me why I’m wrong because of that whole full moon situation.
Bibi’s strategy is more succinct. “I can’t root against the Cowboys”. I get it, he loves the Cowboys. However, this is not a strategy, and we will most likely lose our first game tonight when the Cowboys travel to New York to take on the world champions in a nationally televised kickoff game. But, he wouldn’t be dissuaded and here we are. I am a Rams fan through and through, but unlike Bibi, I can separate my feelings of love and loyalty from common sense but apparently that’s just me. Darrell & Bibi are both gigantic nutjobs and I love them for it all the more.
Go Rams!
