“Choosing to work in HR is like choosing to work in the complaint department of hell” Jenny Lawson

I am asked questions all day long.

“What should I do, he’s looking at me funny”

“What should I do, my manager hates me”

“What should I do, I never get good assignments”

(Today, weirdly) How do you think I should cut my hair?”

My answer, even though I don’t usually say it out loud, is this:  Why don’t you go back to your desk (cube, workstation, etc) and just do your job and don’t worry about it.  If you are doing your job and doing it well, and not spending all your time not doing your job, obsessing about these issues, no one can really say anything about it.

And (today only) try some long layers!

I used to teach very young children (I know that is shocking) and with few exceptions, being in HR requires the exact same skill set.  The only real difference is that you EXPECT 5 year olds to act that way.

Be nice, keep your hands to yourself, don’t talk when I’m talking, follow directions, and don’t run in the hall.  Don’t make me send you home to take a nap.
