Another reason I love the fall is the dearth of good movies that are out.  Here are a few of my favorites so far, and others I’m looking forward to:

Argo – I think I’ve already talked about this here, but it was awesome.  It is so interesting and suspenseful and the acting is wonderful.  Go.  Now.

Skyfall – Yes, I love Daniel Craig more than – well, most things in life, but this was actually a very good movie.  It’s definitely my favorite of the 3 that he’s starred in, which is saying something, because I thought Casino Royale was amazing.  It is a classic Bond film with all the gadgets and action, but there is a deeper sort of story here about technology and change and it’s just wonderful.  One thing I really can’t stop wondering about though is…are we all just supposed to just be okay that at the end of the movie Voldemort has taken over the British Secret Service?????????????????????  the fuck?

Lincoln – I have heard mixed things, but I really enjoyed this movie.  My dad even liked it, and he’s kind of an obsessive about all things Lincoln so you know it must be good.  It’s based on Team of Rivals, one of my favorite non-fiction historical books.  I have a game I like to play with friends that’s called “Who’s Your Favorite President and Why?-  and You Can’t Say Lincoln.”  Because… too easy.  For the record, mine is Teddy Roosevelt because he was awesome and environmental and probably a little crazy and a Rough Rider – what else can you want from your president?

Silver Linings Playbook – I saw this yesterday and absolutely loved it.  It’s a great story about very broken people and it was wonderful.  Bradley Cooper stars, and all I can say is that after seeing him in this, he better stop doing idiotic movies like Hangover – he’s amazing.  Also, Katniss Everdeen is awesome too.  It’s good sometimes to see people handling a breakup worse than me, and the ending actually left me optimistic that I might love someone again.  Of course, my friend Christine had to peel me out of the chair because I was crying so hard, but yeah, that’s me…optimistic.

The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn part II – Just kidding!  I would never see this movie, I would rather eat my own hand off of my arm.  I believe that the Twilight books were written for people who can’t quite grasp the intricacies of the Harry Potter books, but to each his own.

Movies I’m looking forward to –

The Life of Pi, which looks good.  I loved this book, and I cannot imagine how they are going to translate it.  But it’s getting good reviews, and it’s by Ang Lee, who made one of my favorite movies of all time, Sense and Sensibility, so how bad can it be?

Les Miserables – I saw the play and last year I even trudged my way through the book (translated), and am looking forward to it.  I have watched the trailer about 10 times and have yet to make it through without crying like an idiot, so that should be interesting.

Anna Karenina – here’s a book I’ve never been able to get through, but the movie looks good.  And obviously I am in just because it stars Matthew McFayden, who was Darcy in the last Pride and Prejudice, so… not like I have a choice about this one.

Zero Dark Thirty – looks great, Jessica Chastain is wonderful, and I’m assuming it will be good like Argo… I know how it ends, but the details are great.

The Hobbit – yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy I can’t wait.  I loved this book so much as a kid, and adored the Lord of the Rings trilogy and am pretty much a straight up nerd, so this is very high on my list.
