“Only boring people get bored” Joyce LoFiego, my entire childhood

I'm reusing this picture because it's adorable. But mostly because I have not learned to use my computer in the last two days.

I’m reusing this picture because it’s adorable. But mostly because I have not learned to use my computer in the last two days. Screw you, it’s hard.

Today was the first day of a new quarter and I can already tell this is going to be challenging. I’m not just talking about the commute to LA, and let’s face it, that’s a bitch, but luckily I only have to make it a few times. Anyway, I am sorry that I ever uttered the phrase ‘I’m bored’ because obviously the universe is going to torture me for that one. More to come but wow, I might need to quit my job to stay current.

Last week I bought a hardback copy of Persuasion, because I think I only own an eBook, and re-read it over the last few days. Turns out, remarkably, that I really don’t think I’ve ever read this book. Ever. I thought for sure I had read everything that Jane Austen ever wrote, including the juvenilia, but I think I somehow missed this one. I was almost overwhelmed with how amazing Anne Elliot, the heroine of the novel, is – she somehow leaped over most of Jane’s characters to challenge Elinor Dashwood as my near favorite. This is all, obviously, completely aside from Elizabeth Bennett who is and will always be my Most Favorite Person (Category: Fictional; (Presumably) Dead) Of All Time.

Anne is lovely, and I assume because of timing and circumstance, I’ve been stressed out all day thinking about how I so much want to write something as wonderful and lasting as a character like this. And yet, I write about shopping for jeans and reality television and I use so frigging many curse words, and I have so far to go. It’s depressing, but still inspiring. It’s going to be an interesting few months, wish me luck.
